The 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan, commonly called "Expo 2005 Aichi," was held for 185 days from March 25 to September 25, 2005 under the theme of "Nature's Wisdom." The Expo site was located in the hills to the east of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture.
Expo 2005 Aichi was the first World Exposition of the twenty-first century. Its mission was to suggest directions to the world for resolution of the many problems humanity is facing on a global scale, with major indicators that will help us to foresee the future. It adopted a new format for a World Exposition, with the participation of general citizen's groups as well as local governments and private companies, in addition to 121 countries and 4 international organizations.
The Expo served to heighten interest in the world's nature and cultures, and to renew awareness of the importance of the global environment among its more than 22 million visitors. At the same time, the Expo was a place where visitors could directly experience robots and other leading technologies. The Expo was also enjoyable and inspiring for visitors through contact with the many different people who gathered there.
